Residents art on display

Our art group has been busy this winter creating pieces to sell at the Hopewell Craft market, but recently their items received much more public attention while on display in Warren.

Trumbull Art Gallery is hosting its 2nd annual Valley Community Mental Health Foundation art show and reception, and several Hopewell residents participated in the event. From paintings, to sculptures to ceramic, the artwork on display represents the thought process each artist went through to complete their masterpieces- and the healing that can take place through creative expression.

The exhibit is on display through Feb 1st, proceeds from donations and art sales will benefit Valley Counseling Center.

Visit the Trumbull Art Gallery (www.trumbullartgallery.com) for more information, or www.facebook.com/HopewellTC to watch coverage of the event on Channel 27.

Craft Market a Success for Residents and the Community

The Hopewell Farm and Craft Market has just closed for the season, but residents are already back to work, painting bird houses, molding leaf bowls, arranging dried flowers and more to make sure the shelves are stocked for a March opening. Our first year was a huge success, with sales from resident-made crafts and Hopewell-produced eggs, vegetables and syrup totaling $11,000, which exceeded our goal. The Holiday Open House attracted customers from across the area, who enjoyed cookies while they shopped for ornaments, wooden decorations and greeting cards featuring winter scenes from the farm.

The market has been an exciting opportunity for our residents to learn vocational and customer service skills, as well as provide a creative outlet to aid in the healing and recovery process. A big thank you to our Hopewell community for supporting the Farm and Craft Market, we look forward to seeing you on opening day!

Winter 2011 – Sarah Finds Her Way at Hopewell

“I wouldn’t be as high-functioning today if I hadn’t gone to Hopewell,” says Sarah M., a former resident and the author of this year’s annual appeal.

In the fall of 2006, Sarah was a happy, artist-college student living in San Francisco, the city of her dreams. That is when she experienced the first episode of the disease that would eventually bring her to Hopewell.
