Exploring Mental Health

Summer Solstice 2026

Winter 2024: Sophie’s Story

Looking back to her time at Hopewell, Sophie said, “I realized how fortunate I was to have been at Hopewell. I had a mental storm brewing inside and being at Hopewell really restored me. It gave me friends, a community, and a place to heal.”

Fall 2023: Navigating the Mental Health Crisis in Young Adults

“Launching into adulthood is a time for personal growth, individuation, increasing independence, and new social
and potentially academic experiences. Yet a sense of ambiguity and excitement can also include fear and trepidation,” Joanna stated. Young adults face expectations to become independent and make “adult” decisions,
while encountering challenges that may lead to anxiety and depression.

Summer 2023: Hopewell’s Outreach Team

Tim Bitting and Rachel McDonald are part of Hopewell’s Outreach Team. They work together to spread the word about opportunities for hope and healing for adults living with serious mental illness.

Spring 2023: Moving Forward

Drew said, “I was so happy to be at Hopewell. It was a place where I could deal with stress, relax, and take a deep breath. The incredible staff was open to letting me rest and take time for myself. I participated in nature walks and made friends.”

Winter 2023: Where Are They Now?

Chad and Casey are former Hopewell residents who are continuing their journeys.

Spring 2022: Tom’s Creative path

“Hopewell was a beautiful place to celebrate recovery,” Tom said. “I enjoy remembering the work I did and what I learned. I am more diligent in my creative endeavors, and I am a happier person.”

Winter 2022: My Journey Through Mental Illness

Nearly 20 years ago, at age 7, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was experiencing a set of symptoms that overlapped with that mental illness. In retrospect, this was a misdiagnosis. Today we know these symptoms were early signs of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and a dissociative disorder.
